PLEASE READ: 6/13 Piranhas Weekly Update and Coach's Corner

Piranha Families,

Here's what you need to know about our first home meet TOMORROW (Wednesday):

  • We're swimming against Groveport, another large team in our league. We have moved up the meet start time to 5:00pm in an effort to be finished earlier than last week. For that reason, tomorrow's warm-ups for our team will begin at 4:00pm. Please come early so your swimmers are ready to jump in on time!
  • MCC's concession stand will be open tomorrow. Rumor has it that walking tacos are on the menu! Bring cash and be prepared to have your taste buds blown... and P.S. the bar will be open :)
  • All information for a successful meet can be found HERE. Bring your sharpie and make sure you have SwimTopia downloaded! Heat sheets will be published digitally by 4:00pm.
  • Lastly, just a reminder to please go into SwimTopia and declare your swimmers for next week's meet. Sunday night is the deadline!

Coach Caroline's Corner... PLEASE READ!

I'm so happy with how everyone is progressing so far this season, including Fry School; even with the cold, rainy weather you've still shown up! This week we've been focusing on butterfly and breaststroke. From "Egg, Eagle, Snake" to "scooping ice cream" and "mermaid" kicks, we are constantly trying to teach our swimmers good technique while keeping things fun. Just know that breaststroke and butterfly are the hardest strokes, and all strokes are "good" strokes. Even if they're not Michael Phelps yet, all of our Piranhas are MORE than capable of swimming the events I put them in in meets!

I'm sure you've heard your swimmer talk about our daily breath control warm-ups. It's so important for them to build their lung capacity, so those won't be going away anytime soon! Also, with the recent drop in temperature, we haven't been working on starts off the blocks very much. If your swimmer is worried about their dive, please tell them we'll get to it as soon as things warm up.

Lastly, I just want to clarify the email that went out yesterday about attendance and prioritizing practice. I just want swimmers to come to practice so that they can progress! I check all the DQ slips after each meet and design our practice plan so that we have less DQ's the next week. I understand that camps and other events are going on all summer and that's totally fine; I just need to know that swimmers are trying to be here whenever they can. Thanks to so many of you for reaching out and letting me know about your swimmers' schedules--just checking in lets me know that your swimmer would be here if they could! Please still plan to attend all meets regardless of how many practices you're able to attend. And to our club swimmers, please make it a priority to attend Piranha practice at least 1 time a week. Even though you're getting good practice with your club team, it's also important to get to know swimmers on MCC and make connections with the teammates you'll be doing relays with, etc. You're part of our team, too :)

Now get a good night's rest everyone, and I can't wait to watch you swim tomorrow!
