Parent Expectations

Parents are just as important to our team as the swimmers. Without you, the Granville Blue Waves wouldn't exist and our children wouldn't be able to have the summer swim team experience. So THANK YOU, parents, for helping create these memories for our kids! With that in mind, please find below the expectations of being a GBW Parent:

BE A CHEERLEADER. This is a competitive and learn-to-swim league, so progress is the key. Focus on your swimmer's personal accomplishments, NOT which place s/he got in a race. Remember, this sport and skill is your child's--not yours. Our goal is to create swimmers who are capable, safe, and comfortable with the water. Fast times and specific skills come after your swimmer has established a concrete swimming foundation on their own. If you are seen berating your swimmer, you will be be informed that this will not be tolerated.

BE A TEAM PLAYER. Many of our families are generational swimmers and have lots of experience when it comes to summer swim team. Reach out to the new families, answer their questions, invite them to sit with you at practices and meets; this is a great way to help our new families feel welcome and create that sense of community we are striving for.

BE A VOLUNTEER. Volunteering also creates a sense of community, and nowhere is that more true than with the Granville Blue Waves. The meets, the suit fittings, the banquets, donut runs on Fun Fridays--heck, even this website!--are all planned and run by parent volunteers. No amount of money you throw at a situation can replace a warm body. It is a requirement for all Blue Wave Parents to volunteer, but please don't make us (who are parent volunteers ourselves) beg for your participation--just sign up and help. We promise it's fun... and you'll make friends and memories in the process, just like your swimmers!
